Description

P. terebrator is a dark species that superficially resembles some Pimplines. The head, body, coxae, trochanters, hind tibiae and hind tarsi are black, the rest of the legs are reddish. The areolet of the forewing is open distally (3rs-m absent) and the notauli are distinct. Claws of fore and middle tarsi with subapical tooth. The ovipositor is shorter than the abdomen, which is unusually short for Acaenitinae.

Ecology

P. terebrator is regularly found feeding of the nectar of umbellifers. Hosts are Cerambycid beetles, including Oberea linearis.

Distribution

Widespread in Europe and one of the two most commonly reported species. It is listed as near threatened in Finland (NT).
