Fore wing fully developed and pubescent but with the pterostigma very small or absent. Radial vein usually long.
Fore wing fully developed and bare or with microscopic hairs giving the impression of punctation. Radial vein shorter than pterostigma.
Fore wing reduced or absent.
Mesonotum
chevron_right
Mesonotum, at least towards the front, with notauli and a median longitudinal furrow.
Mesonotum with a median longitudinal furrow but without notauli.
Mesonotum without notauli and longitudinal furrow.
Body
chevron_right
Body and head strongly flattened dorsoventrally, thorax and metasoma 2-2.5 times broader than high. Dorsal surface of the pronotum almost invisible in dorsal view.
Head strongly flattened dorsoventrally so that frons and vertex are located in the same plane. The rest of the body usually compressed laterally and clearly narrower than the head.
Neither head or body strongly flattened. Dorsal surface of pronotum visible in dorsal view. Body rarely clearly narrower than the head.
Spurs
chevron_right
Middle tibia with 2 spurs. Longer spur on front tibia forked at tip.
Middle tibia with 1 spur. Longer spur on front tibia not forked.
Female antenna
chevron_right
Female antenna with 11 segments.
Female antenna with 7-10 segments.
1st metasomal tergite
chevron_right
1st metasomal tergite with 3 distinct longitudinal ridges at its base. Females always with reduced wings.
1st metasomal tergite with numerous longitudinal ridges at its base.
Propodeum
chevron_right
Propodeum with a double-toothed projection in the middle.
If propodeum with a projection then it is not double-toothed.
Male antenna 1
chevron_right
Male antenna with some segments produced into long branches.
Male antenna without branches.
Male antenna 2
chevron_right
Male antenna with central segments asymetrical or with short protrusions.
Male antenna with central segments cylindrical.
Notauli
chevron_right
Notauli sharply angled anteriorly. Anterior margin of the mesonotum more or less straight.
Notauli slightly and evenly curved. Anterior margin of the mesonotum more or less rounded.
Aphanogmus/Ceraphron
chevron_right
Mesonotum and scutellum convex. Mesonotum usually without or with a weak median longitudinal carina.
Mesonotum and scutellum plane. Mesonotum with a strong median longitudinal carina.
Waterston's evaporatorium
chevron_right
Waterston's evaporatorium present on the 6th metasomal tergite.
