Lethades sp. 1

Lethades sp. 1 is an undescribed species.

Description

The following description is based on one female, LIUW_26_368.

Female: body black. Face black. Antennae with 29 flagellar segments. Scape apically, pedicel and basal flagellar segments yellow ventrally. Apical flagellar segments divided by a furrow. Face granulate with indistinct punctures contrasting against the shiny and strongly but sparsely punctate clypeus. Clypeus mostly black, slightly brownish laterally. Mandibles yellow. Temples barely narrowed behind the eyes. Mesopleuron granulate with very weak punctures. Coxae black, the rest of the legs except of the partially darkened hind trochanters more or less uniformly red. Claws not pectinate. Tegula pale. Areolet present, pterostigma dark. Propodeal carination distinct with strong costulae. Tergite 1 with weak dorsal carinae that reach the midpoint as faint ridges. Tergite 1 – 3 strongly punctate. Tergite 2 and 3 brownish red in the apical forth. Ovipositor sheaths shorter than the apical height of the metasoma but longer than the second hind tarsal segment. Ovipositor nearly straight, projecting.

Male: unknown.

Status uncertain, but appears to differ from similar species based on several characters:

Lethades laricis: Propodeal carination often reduced, costulae weak or absent. Ovipositor not projecting, short^[1]^[2]. Two barcoded and semingly correctly identified specimens are listed on BOLD that are genetically distant from the above-mentioned female of Lethades sp. 1.
Lethades erichsonii: Mesopleuron coarsely and densely punctate. Tergite 1 with strong dorsal carinae that almost reach the apex^[2].

Direct comparison against type material should be preformed for confirmation.
